Slack for account executives on Mac works best as a deal room. Use one channel per account, Slack Connect for prospects, and alert rules tight enough that deal news still gets seen. This guide covers that setup, the mistakes that waste AE time, and the Mac shortcuts worth memorizing. Lazur is an optional helper for the questions that come up mid-call.

## Quick answer

- Give each account one channel, name it the same way every time, and star the ones you open daily.
- Free plan messages stay searchable for 90 days. Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ keep unlimited history.
- On G2, notification issues are the top listed disadvantage, with 1,137 mentions. Set alert rules before you need them.
- ⌘K jumps to any conversation, ⌘⇧A opens Unreads and ⌥ click marks a message unread.
- Later is now To-dos, starting October 2026. Lazur can point, guide and dictate, but it never clicks for you.

- **90 days** Free plan messages are saved and searchable for 90 days ([source](https://slack.com/pricing))
- **1,137** G2 mentions of notification issues, the top listed Slack disadvantage ([source](https://www.g2.com/products/slack/reviews?qs=pros-and-cons))
- **9.3 hours** per week employees spend searching and gathering information, per Slack's own estimate ([source](https://slack.com/resources/why-use-slack/barriers-to-corporate-knowledge-sharing))
- **$7.25** per user per month for Pro on annual billing, $8.75 billed monthly ([source](https://slack.com/pricing))

## How account executives set up Slack on a Mac

Most account executives do not need a complicated setup. They need three things: one place for each account, a clean route to prospects, and a short list of alerts that matter. Slack's own sales guidance points the same way. Its adoption guide suggests moving internal email threads into channels such as #account and #deal-desk. It also recommends naming channels predictably and starring the busiest ones. Start with those habits. Add features only when a real problem shows up.

Check your Mac app version before you change anything. The most recent Slack for Mac build with a date we could confirm is 4.53.280, released November 3, 2026. That update is a security fix with no feature changes. If your app is older, update it first. Then follow the steps below. Some labels change between builds, so if a name on this page does not match your screen, trust the screen.

## Build one channel per account, and name it the same way

Pick one naming pattern and use it for every account. You might use #acct-acme for the account home, #deal-acme for an open deal, and #help-acme for requests to your solutions team. Slack's adoption guide uses #account, #deal-desk and prefixes such as #help- or #plz- for deal support. Copy the idea, not the exact words. When every rep names channels the same way, search and autocomplete do most of the work.

- Create one channel per open deal, and archive it after the deal closes.
- Give support requests a prefix so they sit together when you search.
- Use the account name, not the owner's first name, so a new teammate can find it.
- Write a one-line purpose in the channel description on day one.

Star the channels you open every day. Slack's adoption guide recommends starring the important ones, and it cuts the time you spend hunting for the same room twice a day. To create a channel, follow [how to create a channel in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/create-a-channel-in-slack). Pick public for anything a teammate might need, and private only for sensitive deal terms.

## Slack Connect for prospects, and the limits to know

Slack Connect channels let you work with a prospect inside Slack. Slack's adoption guide describes this for prospect work. It also says contracts can move through DocuSign or HelloSign, and that meetings can be scheduled from the channel. Ask the prospect early whether their team uses Slack, so you do not build a channel nobody reads.

> **Two external limits, one conflict:** Slack's sales adoption guide says Slack Connect channels can be shared with up to 20 organizations. Slack's pricing page says group external messages allow up to 250 orgs. The two numbers do not match. Ask your admin which limit applies to your plan before you plan a multi-company channel.

Keep the prospect channel clean. Do not paste internal margin notes, competitor intel or a debate about discounts into a channel the buyer can read. Keep those in an internal channel. A simple rule helps: if the buyer could read it, write it for the buyer.

## Cut notification noise so deal alerts get seen

On G2, the top listed disadvantage of Slack is notification issues, with 1,137 mentions. Those are general user reviews, not sales-only data. Still, the pattern is familiar. A busy account channel pings all day, and the one message that matters gets buried under the rest.

**Most-cited Slack cons on G2**

- Notification Issues: 1137 mentions
- Missing Features: 941 mentions
- Limited Features: 757 mentions
- Overwhelming Experience: 752 mentions
- Channel Management: 688 mentions

Source: https://www.g2.com/products/slack/reviews?qs=pros-and-cons

Build alert rules before the noise builds up. Start with direct messages and mentions. Then add keyword alerts for account names and words such as signed or renewal. Slack's sales page lists keyword notifications among its features for sales work. Mute the channels you only need to skim.

- Mute channels you only skim once a day, so they stop pinging you.
- Turn on keyword alerts for account names, so you still catch the reply you wait for.
- Pause notifications during calls and deep work with /dnd or the profile menu.
- Check the Unreads view at set times, not every time a dot appears.

If alerts stop arriving at all, that is a different problem. Check the Slack settings and the macOS notification settings first. The full steps are in [how to fix missing notifications in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/fix-missing-notifications-in-slack). For scheduled quiet time, see [how to pause notifications in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/pause-notifications-in-slack).

## Find old Slack messages without losing an afternoon

Search is where Slack costs account executives the most time. Slack says employees spend 9.3 hours per week searching for and gathering information. That figure comes from Slack's own page, which does not name the study, its sample size or its year. Read it as Slack's claim, not a benchmark. The pattern still holds for AEs. Deals run for months, and old decisions hide in old threads.

Search inside the right channel first. A narrow search returns fewer, better results than a search across the whole workspace. Widen the search only when the channel does not have what you need. The steps are in [how to search messages in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/search-messages-in-slack). For one long thread, use [how to search in a conversation in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/search-inside-a-conversation-in-slack).

- Keeping a decision in a direct message, where nobody else on the deal can search for it.
- Using the free plan for a deal that runs longer than the 90-day search window.
- Searching the wrong workspace after you switch between your company and a partner.
- Leaving a decision on a call with no written recap in the account channel.

> **Write the recap in the channel:** After every call, post a recap in the account channel with the date, the next step and the owner. Search finds that recap in seconds. It cannot find a decision that only lived on a call.

## Where Later went and what To-dos does now

Starting October 2026, the To-dos tab replaces Later in the sidebar. Later items with a reminder become to-dos. In-progress items without a reminder move to Saved. Archived items move to Saved too. If a guide or a coworker still says to open Later, that advice is out of date.

Slack's help article does not say where the To-dos tab sits in the macOS sidebar. Look for the label instead of a fixed spot. If you cannot find it, ask Lazur to circle it on your screen. For saved items, see [how to save a message for later in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/save-a-message-for-later-in-slack).

## Slack keyboard shortcuts on Mac for account executives

Slack's keyboard help covers the shortcuts below. The help page does not list Mac shortcuts for search, saved items or reminders, and it does not say how to customize shortcuts. Press ⌘/ in the app to see the full list for your version.

| Shortcut | What it does on Mac |
| --- | --- |
| ⌘K | Open the quick switcher to jump to a channel or person |
| ⌘⇧A | Open Unreads |
| ⌘J | Jump to the first unread message |
| ⌥ click | Mark a message unread |
| ⌘/ | Show the full keyboard shortcut list |

_Shortcuts from Slack's keyboard help page. Check the full list in your version with ⌘/._

Use ⌘K before you reach for the mouse. Type the account name, press return and you are in the room. On a heavy morning, start with ⌘⇧A, then press ⌘J to land on the first unread message. You read in order and skip nothing that matters.

Option-click is the most useful shortcut for AEs. Mark a message unread when you cannot act on it yet, so it stays on your list. The steps are in [how to mark a message as unread in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/mark-a-message-as-unread-in-slack). For the full shortcut walkthrough, see [how to show the keyboard shortcuts list in Slack](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/show-the-keyboard-shortcuts-list-in-slack).

## Workflow Builder, Canvas and templates for deal work

Workflow Builder can standardize required fields for deal support requests, according to Slack's adoption guide. A workflow can ask for the account, the deal size and the target close date before a request reaches your team. That removes the back and forth that eats part of your week.

Canvas lets you record an action plan after a call. The plan stays available after the call ends, so the next steps do not live only in your head. Put the owner, the date and the one blocker in the canvas. Then link it from the account channel.

Slack's adoption guide says the sales deal tracking and sales enablement templates bundle canvases, lists and workflows, and that they need a paid plan. Slack's sales page also names templates for sales resources and 1-1 Coaching. Check your plan before you build a process around any of them.

Slack's sales page lists Salesforce, HubSpot and Zoho as CRM integrations. It also says Salesforce Sales Cloud deal insights can help with forecasting. Ask your admin which CRM is connected to your workspace. Then decide which deal updates belong in Slack and which stay in the CRM.

## How Lazur helps while you work in Slack

Lazur is a voice assistant for the Mac. It lives in the notch. Hold ⌥ ⌘, which is Option plus Command, to ask about anything on screen. Lazur answers out loud. In Slack, you can ask where a view is or what a button does without leaving the channel you are in.

Ask where something is, and Lazur draws a circle and a label around it. Ask how to do something, and Lazur guides you one click at a time. It waits for each click before it moves on. Lazur does not click buttons, edit files or operate other apps for you. The send button stays in your hands.

Hold fn to dictate. Dictation writes clean, formatted text at the cursor in any app, Slack included. Use it for the call recap, then read the recap once before you post it. Snippets, a personal dictionary and clipboard slots help with the phrases you repeat every week, such as your pricing terms or your sign-off.

> **Test your speaking pace:** Dictation pays off most when you speak faster than you type. Try the [speaking vs typing test](https://www.lazur.app/tools/speaking-vs-typing-test) to compare your own pace. Then decide which Slack messages are worth dictating.

## Slack plans and what they change for an AE team

Plan choice changes two things for an AE team: how far back search reaches, and who outside your company you can message. Compare the table before you ask for a budget. Prices are per user, and they come from Slack's pricing page as checked on November 7, 2026.

| Plan | Price per user per month | Message history | Outside messaging |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free plan | No per-user price listed here | Searchable for 90 days | One-to-one only |
| Pro | $7.25 annual, $8.75 monthly | Unlimited | Group, up to 250 orgs |
| Business+ | $15 annual, $18 monthly | Unlimited | Group, up to 250 orgs |
| Enterprise+ | $45 annual only | Unlimited | Group, up to 250 orgs |

_Figures from Slack's pricing page. Confirm with your admin, since plan limits can change._

Free plans keep messages searchable for 90 days, and upgrading gives access to the previous 12 months. Pro and the higher plans keep unlimited history. For a deal that runs for months, the free plan is a poor fit. For a solo rep testing Slack, it may be enough.

Slack's sales page cites a 27% average increase in win rate and a 26% average increase in sales productivity. Those figures come from Salesforce's own survey of 115 to 755 Slack and Salesforce users, run in July 2022. Treat them as vendor claims. They do not predict what your team will see.

## Mistakes account executives make in Slack on Mac

- Turning on every alert on the first day. Start with mentions and direct messages, then add channels one at a time.
- Keeping deal decisions in direct messages. Move them to the account channel the same day.
- Pasting pricing into a channel without checking its name. Read the channel name first.
- Following an older guide that still says Later. The tab is To-dos now.
- Trusting dictation without a read. A name or a number can come out wrong.

> **Check before you paste:** Before you paste pricing or internal notes, read the channel name at the top of the window. A prospect channel and an internal channel can look alike when you move fast. One glance prevents the mistake.

## What to do next with Slack for account executives

Start with one account. Build its channel, name it, star it and set its alerts. Then repeat the steps for the next account. A week of small changes beats a day of reorganizing everything. ## With Lazur

Lazur is a voice assistant for the Mac that lives in the notch. Hold ⌥ ⌘ and ask; it sees your screen, answers out loud, points at buttons and walks you through apps. Hold fn to dictate. Free for 3 days, then $18/month: https://www.lazur.app/download

- “Where are my unread messages?”: Lazur circles the Unreads view in Slack and labels it on your screen. Press ⌘⇧A to open it yourself, then ⌘J to land on the first unread message. (Points at it)
- “Where's the #account channel for Acme?”: If the channel is on screen, Lazur circles it and labels it. If it is not, Lazur tells you to press ⌘K and type the name.
- “Walk me through marking this message unread.”: Lazur guides you one click at a time and waits for each click before it moves to the next step. You do the clicks.
- “Draft a reply to Dana. Tell her the pricing call moved to Thursday at 2.”: Lazur drafts the reply and can type it where your cursor is. You check the day and the time, then send it yourself.
- “Dictate my call recap for the deal desk.”: Hold fn, speak the recap, and clean formatted text appears at the cursor. Read it once before you post it.
- “Remind me Friday at nine to follow up with Acme.”: Lazur sets an Apple Reminders item, not a Slack reminder. Use Slack's reminder feature if the nudge has to appear in the channel.
- “Research the pricing pages of the rivals on this slide.”: Research runs in Lazur's own Chrome tabs and comes back with a summary and a report. Check any price against the vendor's own pricing page.

## FAQ

### Which Slack plan do account executives need?

It depends on how long your deals run and how often you message outside companies. Free plan messages stay searchable for 90 days, and group external messages are not included. Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ keep unlimited history and allow group external messages with up to 250 orgs. Ask your admin which plan your workspace uses.

### How do I find a Slack message from six months ago on the free plan?

On the free plan, search reaches back 90 days. Slack's pricing page says upgrading gives access to the previous 12 months. Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ keep unlimited message history. If the message falls outside your plan's window, ask an admin how your company keeps older records.

### Why does Slack send so many notifications to account executives?

Busy account channels and broad mentions add up quickly. On G2, notification issues are the top listed disadvantage of Slack, with 1,137 mentions. Mute the channels you only skim, turn on keyword alerts for account names, and pause alerts during calls with /dnd or the profile menu.

### What replaced Later in Slack?

The To-dos tab replaced Later in the sidebar starting October 2026. Later items with a reminder became to-dos, and in-progress items without a reminder moved to Saved. Archived items moved to Saved too. Some older guides still describe Later as the place for reminders, so check the current help article.

### Can Lazur send Slack messages for me?

No. Lazur does not click buttons or operate other apps for you. It can type a draft where your cursor is when you ask it to, and it can dictate text when you hold fn. You read the message and press send yourself.

### Does Lazur work with Salesforce or HubSpot inside Slack?

Lazur is not a plugin or add-in for any app, and it has no partnership with any app maker. It sees your screen only while you hold the shortcut. It can answer questions about whatever is on that screen, including a CRM record you have open.

### How much time does Slack say people spend searching?

Slack's own page says employees spend 9.3 hours per week searching and gathering information. The page does not name the study, the sample size or the year. Treat the figure as Slack's claim, and track your own search time for a week before you change anything.
