To embed a Google Sheet in Notion on Mac, set the sheet to Anyone with the link, copy the link, then paste it on a new Notion line and choose Embed. For a private sheet, connect your Google account in Notion and use the /drive block instead.

## Quick answer

- In Google Sheets, click Share and set General access to Anyone with the link, Viewer.
- In the Notion desktop app, click + on an empty line, choose Embed, press Enter, and paste the link.
- Typing /embed on an empty line and pasting the link does the same job.
- For a private sheet, connect Google under Settings > Connections, then use the /drive block.
- A blank box usually means the sharing is off. Failed to Load means the site blocks embeds.

Applies to: Notion desktop app and Notion in the browser, on macOS. Time: 10 min. Difficulty: Easy.

## What you need

- A Mac with the Notion desktop app, or Notion open in a browser
- A Google account that can open the sheet
- Permission to change the sheet's sharing, or a sheet you own
- An editable Notion page where the embed will live

## How to Embed a Google Sheet in Notion on Mac in Notion on a Mac

1. **Open the sheet and click Share.** (Share) In Google Sheets, open the spreadsheet in your browser. Click Share in the top-right corner. The sharing dialog opens, and you can change who has access from there. Tip: If you cannot change sharing, the file owner has to make the change, or you need a copy you own.
2. **Set General access to Anyone with the link.** (General access > Anyone with the link) Under General access, change Restricted to Anyone with the link. Keep the role at Viewer so people can see the sheet but not edit it. Tip: Anyone who has the link can open the sheet. Skip this step for private data and use the /drive route instead.
3. **Copy the link.** (Copy link) Click Copy link, then Done. The link now sits on your clipboard, so copy nothing else before you paste it into Notion.
4. **Open the Notion page and make an empty line.** Open the Notion desktop app and the page where the sheet belongs. Click an empty line below your text, so the new block starts in the right place. Tip: Put the embed under the heading it belongs to, so the sheet reads as part of that section.
5. **Click + and choose Embed.** (+ > Embed) Click + on the empty line, then choose Embed. Press Enter. Notion opens a box for the link. Tip: Typing /embed on the empty line does the same job.
6. **Paste the link and press Enter.** Shortcut: ⌘V. Press ⌘V to paste the link, then press Enter. Notion loads the sheet below the line. Give it a moment, because the sheet loads from Google before it appears. Tip: Read the link first. It should end with the sheet you meant to share.
7. **Check that the sheet loads.** Look at the embed. You should see the sheet's cells. If the box is blank, go back to Google Sheets and recheck General access. If it says Failed to Load, use the troubleshooting list below. Tip: Reload the page once to confirm the embed loads on a fresh view.
8. **Connect your Google account for private sheets.** (Settings > Connections) Open the workspace menu at the top of the sidebar, then go to Settings. Choose Connections and connect your Google account. You can connect more than one account. Tip: You connect each Google account once. After that, the /drive block can browse its files.
9. **Add the Google Drive block.** (+ > Google Drive) On an empty line, click + and choose Google Drive. You can also type /drive and press Enter. Tip: Notion's help page lists this route for Google Docs and Sheets.
10. **Pick the sheet.** (Browse Google Drive) Click Browse Google Drive to find the file, or paste the sheet's URL. Then check that the sheet appears in the block. Tip: If the sheet is missing, check which Google account you connected.

## Before you start: set the sheet's sharing

Notion does not copy your spreadsheet into the page. It loads the sheet from its web address, so the viewer's browser has to reach it. If Google asks that viewer to sign in, the embed fails. That rule explains most of the failures in this guide.

You have two sharing options. The first is Anyone with the link, set to Viewer. Anyone who has the link can open the sheet, and that is enough for Notion to show it. A vendor guide from Sync2Sheets calls this the usual fix for a blank embed. The second is Publish to web. In Google Sheets, go to File > Share > Publish to web. Google says a published file can be visible to everyone on the web, or to a group in your organization, depending on account settings.

Publish to web has one setting worth changing. Turn on Automatically republish when changes are made, found under Published content & settings. That keeps the published copy in step with your later edits. You can stop publishing from the same place when you are done.

| Route | Best for | What the sheet needs |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Anyone with the link | Quick sharing of sheets with no private data | General access set to Anyone with the link, Viewer |
| Publish to web | Sheets you want visible on the web | File > Share > Publish to web |
| /drive block | Private sheets | Your Google account connected under Settings > Connections |

_Three routes and what each one needs_

## Embed a public sheet with the + menu or /embed

Both routes end in the same place. Click + on an empty line if you like menus. Type / if you like the keyboard. Notion's keyboard shortcuts page says /embed opens more than 500 embeds, so the command is the place to look if you cannot find Embed in the + menu.

Read the link before you press Enter. Check that it ends with the sheet you meant to share. The preview that loads after you paste it shows what Notion received, so a quick look saves you a second paste.

## Use the /drive block for a private sheet

If the sheet is private, leave its sharing alone. Connect your Google account in Notion instead. Open Settings, go to Connections, and connect Google. Notion's help page says you can connect more than one Google account, which helps when your sheets live in a work account and a personal one.

Then add the block on an empty line. Click + and choose Google Drive, or type /drive and press Enter. Click Browse Google Drive to pick the file, or paste the file URL. Notion's help page covers Google Docs and Sheets this way. It does not list Google Sheets by name among its embed services, so if this route fails, check the connected account first.

## Replace an embed that points to the wrong sheet

Hover over the embed and click the ⋮⋮ or ••• handle. Choose Replace, then Embed link, and paste the new link. You do not need to delete the block and start again. Notion's help page describes this swap for embeds in general, so the same steps apply to a sheet.

## Desktop app or browser: the same steps, one catch

The sources I checked describe the same routes in the Mac app and in the browser. Notion's help page says embeds that need a login to an external site do not work in the desktop or mobile apps. So a sheet behind a sign-in can open in a browser tab and still fail in Notion for Mac.

> **Check the menu labels:** The menu labels here come from Notion's help pages and a vendor guide. I did not open the live Mac app to confirm each one. If a label looks different on your copy, look for the same word in the menu bar.

## When the sheet is blank or shows Failed to Load

Two symptoms look alike, but they have different causes. A blank box usually means the sheet is not shared with the viewer. Set General access to Anyone with the link, then reload the Notion page. Failed to Load is different. Notion's help page says it shows up when a site blocks embedding. You cannot change that from your side, so keep the sheet as a plain link.

## What Notion sends to the site you embed

Notion uses Iframely to build embeds from more than 1,900 domains. Notion's help page says the embedded app may receive the IP addresses of people who view the page. So a teammate who opens your page can reveal their IP address to the embedded app. For most team planning sheets that is an acceptable trade. For payroll, client lists, or anything you would not email to a stranger, skip the embed.

## Plan limits: what the 5 MB cap covers

Notion's pricing page says Free plan uploads, such as images, videos, and attachments, are capped at 5 MB each. Paid plans allow up to 5 GB per file. A linked Google Sheet is not uploaded to Notion, so those upload caps do not describe your embed. The pricing page does not give an embed size limit, so I cannot give you one.

## Keyboard shortcuts that save time on a Mac

Notion's shortcuts page lists ⌘⌥ combinations for block types. ⌘⌥5 makes a bullet list, and ⌘⌥7 makes a toggle. It does not list a shortcut for embeds. Your fastest route is / on an empty line, then type embed. Press Esc to close the block menu if you change your mind.

For a dry run, press ⌘N to start a new page and test the embed there. ⌘⇧N opens a new window. A test page keeps a broken embed off the page your team reads.

## Where Lazur fits in

Lazur is a voice assistant that lives in the notch on your Mac. Hold ⌥⌘ and ask about anything on screen, and Lazur answers out loud. Ask where something is, and Lazur draws a circle and a label around it. Ask how to do something, and Lazur guides you one click at a time, waiting for each click.

Here is how that helps with this task. Stuck on the Google Drive picker? Ask where the Browse Google Drive button is, and Lazur circles it. Need the Connections page? Ask Lazur to walk you through it, and it waits for each click. Lazur does not click for you, and it does not change the sharing on your sheet.

## Mistakes that break a Notion embed

- Turning on Anyone with the link for a sheet full of private numbers.
- Using Publish to web when you only meant to share with your team. Published pages can be visible to everyone on the web, depending on your account settings.
- Embedding a sheet that needs a sign-in, then testing it only in a browser tab.
- Connecting the wrong Google account before you use the /drive block.
- Skipping the test. Open the page again and confirm the sheet still loads.

## Does this still work after Notion updates?

Notion's releases page lists October 19, 2026 as its latest release. That entry does not mention embeds, Google Drive, slash commands, or the Mac app. That is a good sign for these steps. It is not a promise that nothing changed, so check the menus if a step does not match what you see. I did not find a Notion version number that covers these steps, so I have not given one.

## Where to go next

If Notion is not installed yet, follow [how to install the Notion desktop app on Mac](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/install-the-desktop-app-in-notion). To share the page with your team, read [how to share a page in Notion on Mac](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/share-a-page-in-notion). If your sheet data belongs in a structured table, [create a database in Notion](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/create-a-database-in-notion) instead of embedding it.

Want a voice on hand while you work? [Get Lazur for Mac](https://www.lazur.app/download) and hold ⌥⌘ when a menu gets confusing.

## Shortcuts

- Open the block menu: /
- Close the block menu: Esc
- Paste the sheet link: ⌘V
- New Notion page for a test embed: ⌘N
- New Notion window: ⌘⇧N
- Ask Lazur about anything on screen: ⌥⌘ (hold)

## If it does not work

- **The embed box is blank** The sheet is probably restricted. In Google Sheets, click Share, set General access to Anyone with the link, Viewer, then reload the Notion page. A vendor guide gives this as the usual cause.
- **The embed says Failed to Load** Notion's help page says this message appears when a site blocks embedding. Notion's page confirms the cause but offers no fix, so keep the sheet as a plain link that readers can open in a new tab.
- **The embed will not load in the desktop app** Notion's help page says embeds that need a login to an external site do not work in the desktop or mobile apps. Make the sheet viewable without a sign-in, or use the /drive block with your connected Google account.
- **The Google Drive block does not show my sheet** Check which Google account you connected under Settings > Connections. You can connect more than one account, so connect the account that owns the sheet, then try Browse Google Drive again.
- **Embed is missing from the + menu** Click an empty line, type /embed, and paste the link. Notion's keyboard shortcuts page lists /embed in its block menu commands.
- **I embedded the wrong sheet** Hover over the embed, click the ⋮⋮ or ••• handle, choose Replace, then Embed link, and paste the correct link.

## With Lazur

Lazur is a voice assistant for the Mac that lives in the notch. Hold ⌥ ⌘ and ask; it sees your screen, answers out loud, points at buttons and walks you through apps. Hold fn to dictate. Free for 3 days, then $18/month: https://www.lazur.app/download

- “Where's the Browse Google Drive button?”: Lazur circles the Browse Google Drive button and labels it on your screen. (Points at it)

## FAQ

### Does embedding a Google Sheet work the same in the browser?

The sources I checked describe the same routes in the Mac app and the browser, so the steps match. I did not open the live Mac app to confirm every label. Embeds that need a sign-in to an external site do not work in the desktop app, according to Notion's help page, so test the sheet there.

### Why does my embedded Google Sheet show a blank box?

Most often the sheet is not shared with the viewer. A vendor guide says the fix is General access set to Anyone with the link, Viewer. After you change sharing, reload the Notion page. If the box stays blank, check that you pasted the link you copied from the sheet.

### Should I use Publish to web or Anyone with the link?

Use Anyone with the link for a quick share of a sheet with no private data. Publish to web can make the sheet visible on the web, or to your organization, depending on account settings. For private figures, use the /drive block and leave the sheet's sharing as it is.

### Will the embed update when I edit the sheet?

Google's help page offers Automatically republish when changes are made for published sheets. Turn it on if you need the embed to follow your edits. The sources I checked do not say how fast updates arrive, so test after a change.

### Is there a keyboard shortcut for embedding a sheet?

Not that I found. Notion's keyboard shortcuts page lists ⌘⌥ shortcuts for block types but no shortcut for embeds. Type / on an empty line, then type embed and choose the Embed option.

### Can Lazur embed the sheet for me?

No. Lazur points at things, explains them, guides you one click at a time and answers out loud. It does not click buttons or operate Notion for you, so you do the paste and the clicks.

### Does the 5 MB limit stop a large sheet from loading?

The 5 MB cap in Notion's pricing page applies to file uploads on the Free plan, such as images, videos, and attachments. A linked sheet is not uploaded to Notion. The pricing page does not give an embed size limit, so check that a large sheet still loads before you rely on it.
