To share a page in Notion on Mac, open it, click Share at the top, add people by name or email, pick a permission, and click Invite. To make a page public, open Share, select the Publish tab, and click Publish to the web.

## Quick answer

- Click Share at the top of the page, then add people by name, group or email.
- Set each person's permission: Full access, Can edit, Can comment or Can view.
- Click Invite. Guests need their own Notion account to open the page.
- To make a page public, open Share, select Publish, then click Publish to the web.
- The desktop app needs macOS 13 or later. The browser steps are the same.

Applies to: Notion desktop app for macOS 13 or later, and Notion in Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge. Time: 3 min. Difficulty: Easy.

## What you need

- A Mac running macOS 13 or later for the Notion desktop app
- Full access to the page, since Can edit and lower levels can't share
- A Notion account, and a Notion account for each guest
- Notion in Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge on a recent version, if you use the browser

## How to Share a Notion page on Mac in Notion on a Mac

1. **Open the page you want to share.** Open the page in the Notion desktop app, or in Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge. Confirm you have Full access. Only Full access lets you share a page with anyone. Can edit can change content but can't share.
2. **Click Share at the top of the page.** (Share) Click Share in the header at the top of the page. The Share menu opens and lists the people who already have access, with their levels. Tip: Notion's help only says Share is at the top of the page, so look for the word in the header.
3. **Add a person, group or email address.** Click the invite field in the Share menu and type a name or email address. Select a workspace member or group from the list. For someone outside your workspace, enter their full email address. Tip: An address on your organization's domain adds a member, not a guest.
4. **Pick a permission for each person.** (Share > Dropdown beside the name) Open the dropdown beside the person's name. Choose Full access, Can edit, Can comment or Can view. Repeat for each person, because every name has its own setting. Tip: Give Can view when someone only needs to read, so they can't change content.
5. **Click Invite.** (Invite) Click Invite to send the invitation. Guests get an email and need their own Notion account to open the page. Tip: If the invite fails, check the troubleshooting list on this page for guest limits and blocked domains.
6. **Check the list of people with access.** (Share > Remove) Reopen Share and read the names and levels. Change a level with its dropdown. Choose Remove to take someone's access away. Tip: Do this after a project ends, when people no longer need the page.
7. **Open the Publish tab.** (Share > Publish) Only publish a page if you're ready to show it outside your workspace. Open Share, then select the Publish tab. Tip: Publishing is separate from inviting. Check both if you need both.
8. **Choose Publish to the web.** (Share > Publish > Publish to the web) Click Publish to the web. Under General access, choose Anyone on the web with link. If the link should stop on a date, set Link expires before you publish. Tip: Check Search engine indexing before you publish a page that holds private notes.
9. **Copy the link to send it.** Shortcut: ⌘L. With the page open, press ⌘L to copy the page's URL. Paste it into a message. The link only opens for people who already have access, unless the page is published. Tip: Send the link with a short note that says guests need a Notion account.

Sharing in Notion does two different jobs. Invites give named people access to a page. Publishing turns a page into a public web page that anyone with the link can read. Most confusion comes from mixing these two up, so this guide treats them separately.

- **macOS 13** Oldest macOS version that the Notion desktop app supports ([source](https://www.notion.com/help/system-requirements-for-notion))
- **4** Permission levels in the Share menu for regular pages ([source](https://www.notion.com/help/sharing-and-permissions))

## Check your access and your app first

Sharing depends on your permission level more than on your Mac. To share a page with anyone, you need Full access. Can edit lets you change the content, but it doesn't let you share the page. If you can't invite people, ask the page owner which level you have.

The Notion desktop app needs macOS 13 or later. Notion's system requirements page lists that as the minimum. If your Mac is older, use Notion in your browser. Notion's help describes one sharing flow for every platform, so the steps below work there too. To confirm your version, read [how to check Notion system requirements on Mac](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/check-system-requirements-in-notion).

## Share a Notion page with specific people on Mac

Inviting is the most common reason people search for this. The Share menu asks for a name, a group or an email address. Workspace members and groups come from your list. An email address on your organization's domain adds the person as a member. Any other address is handled as a guest.

Choose the level before you click Invite. Think about what the person needs to do on the page. Set the level for each person, not for the whole page, because every name has its own dropdown.

Here is a common case. You write a product spec in Notion for a launch. The designer needs to fix copy, so that person gets Can edit. The engineering lead only needs to leave questions, so that person gets Can comment. The executive reads the final version and gets Can view. Each person gets one setting, and the page stays in one place.

### What each permission level allows

| Permission | What the person can do |
| --- | --- |
| Full access | Edit all content and share the page with anyone |
| Can edit | Edit content, but can't share the page |
| Can comment | Leave comments without changing content |
| Can view | Read the page only |

_Permission levels in the Share menu for regular pages._

Database pages add Can edit content, and Business and Enterprise plans add Can create. Check the options on your own database before you invite a group. They differ from the options on a regular page.

## Invite guests from outside your organization

A guest is someone outside your workspace who gets access to specific pages. Guests need their own Notion account to open a shared page. Tell them that in your invite note, or they may think the link is broken.

Guest invites can fail for two common reasons. The workspace may have reached its guest limit. Or the guest's email domain may not be allowed for the workspace. Notion's pricing page lists a guest limit but doesn't name the plan it applies to, so check your plan details before you invite a group.

If the guest limit blocks you, remove guests you no longer need, upgrade to a plan with a higher limit, or contact Notion sales. Removing guests is the fastest fix when you only need one more seat.

## Publish a Notion page to the web

Publishing creates a public page. Anyone who has the link can read it, including people outside your team. Publishing is separate from inviting, so readers don't need an invite for each person.

The Publish settings give you more control than the name suggests. Search engine indexing makes the page visible to search engines. Show link options controls whether readers can comment, view or edit. Link expires sets a date after which the link stops working.

> **Check before you publish:** A published page can be found by anyone who has the link. Look at Search engine indexing before you publish. Keep private notes and customer details off any page you plan to publish.

Enterprise owners can disable public links for the whole workspace under Settings > Security. If publishing seems blocked, check that setting before you assume the Mac app has a fault.

## Review and remove access

Sharing isn't finished when you click Invite. Open Share again after a project ends, and read the list of names. Each name shows its level. Change the dropdown to lower someone's access, or choose Remove to take it away.

## Copy a link without changing access

Sometimes you only need to send a link to someone who already has access. With the page open, press ⌘L to copy the page's URL. Paste it into Slack, email or a message. The link won't give access to anyone who isn't already allowed in, unless the page is published.

## Plans and admin controls that change sharing

Your plan decides what you can control. Business adds private teamspaces and granular database permissions. Enterprise adds controls, such as stopping certain people from sharing externally and disabling guests. Check Notion's pricing page for current prices before you change plans.

On Enterprise, an owner can turn off Allow members to invite guests to pages. The path is Settings > Security > Members & guests. After that, only owners can invite guests. Members can send a request instead, if Allow members to request adding guests is on.

## Common mistakes when you share a Notion page

- Giving Full access by default. Full access lets someone share the page with anyone, so start with a lower level.
- Publishing when you meant to invite. A published link opens for anyone who has it, not just the people you chose.
- Forgetting that guests need an account. Say so in the invite note, or send a short message first.
- Expecting a different Mac menu. Notion's help gives one flow for all platforms, so the browser steps match.

## When the Share button looks different

Notion's help says Share sits at the top of the page. It doesn't give an exact position on Mac, and menus can change between releases. If you can't find the button, look for the word Share in the page header first. Then check your access level, since a lower level can't share.

## What to do after you share

Test the share before you send the link to a large group. Open the page from a second account, or ask a colleague to open it. This catches the common guest sign-in problem early.

If your links open in the browser when you want the app, read [how to open Notion links in the desktop app](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/open-notion-links-in-the-desktop-app-in-notion). For a fresh install on your Mac, follow [how to install the Notion desktop app on Mac](https://www.lazur.app/how-to/install-the-desktop-app-in-notion).

## Shortcuts

- Copy the URL of the open page: ⌘L
- Open search or jump to a recently viewed page: ⌘K
- Open a page in a new window: ⌥⇧ + click
- Open a new Notion window: ⇧⌘N

## If it does not work

- **The Share menu won't let me invite anyone** Check your access. Can edit, Can comment and Can view can't share. Ask the page owner, or someone with Full access, to share the page with you.
- **Guest invite fails with a limit message** Remove guests you no longer need, upgrade to a plan with a higher guest limit, or contact Notion sales. Check your plan on Notion's pricing page first.
- **Guest email is refused** The workspace may not allow that email domain. If the person should be a member, use an address on your organization's domain. Otherwise ask a workspace owner which domains are allowed.
- **Guest invites are missing on Enterprise** An owner may have turned off member guest invites under Settings > Security > Members & guests. Ask an owner to invite the guest, or send a request if that option is on.
- **A public link doesn't open for someone** Check Link expires in the Publish tab, since the link may have run out. On Enterprise, an owner may have disabled public links under Settings > Security.

## FAQ

### Can I share a page in Notion on Mac from the browser instead of the app?

Yes. Notion's help describes one sharing flow for all platforms, so the Share steps match in the web app. The web app supports recent versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

### Why can't I see the Share option on a page?

Sharing needs Full access. Can edit, Can comment and Can view can't share the page. Ask the page owner to share it with you or to raise your access level.

### What is the difference between Invite and Publish to the web?

Invite gives named people or groups access. Publish to the web creates a public page, and anyone with the link can read it. Use Invite for private work and Publish for pages you want public.

### Do guests need a Notion account to open a shared page?

Yes. Guests need their own Notion account to access a shared page. Say so in your invite note so they don't think the link is broken.

### How do I stop a public link from working?

Set Link expires before you publish, so the link ends on a set date. Notion's sharing help does not describe another quick off switch, so check the Publish tab for its current options. On Enterprise, an owner can disable public links under Settings > Security.

### Do the sharing steps differ between Mac and Windows?

Notion's help pages describe one flow for all platforms and don't give separate Mac menu paths. The steps in this guide follow those help pages, so the Share flow should match on both systems.
