AI assistant for Finder on Mac: what Lazur does in macOS 27 Golden Gate
Lazur is an AI assistant for Finder on Mac that you talk to. Hold Option and Command, ask a question, and it answers out loud while it looks at your Finder window. It explains what is on screen, circles the control you need, walks you through a feature one click at a time, and types text where your cursor sits. It does not move files or click for you.

What Lazur does in Finder on Mac
Lazur lives in the notch at the top of your screen. You hold a key, ask a question, and let go. While the shortcut is held, Lazur can see your screen and answer out loud. When you let go, it stops looking. That matters in Finder, where you work with folders full of files and do not want an assistant watching every window all day.
There are two shortcuts, and they do different jobs. Hold Option and Command (⌥⌘) to ask about anything on screen. Hold fn to dictate. Dictation types clean, formatted text at the cursor, so it works in a Get Info comment box as well as in a document.
- Explain: ask what the window shows, or what a symbol, column, or setting means.
- Point: ask where a control is. Lazur draws a circle and a label around it on your screen.
- Guide: ask how to do a task. Lazur gives one step, then waits for your click.
- Draft and dictate: ask for a draft to be typed at the cursor, or hold fn and speak.
- Everyday: open a link, add an Apple Reminders item, or set a timer while you sort files.
Which Finder tasks people search for
I could not find a survey that measures which Finder questions people ask most. I also could not find Apple page-visit counts for its help topics. So this list uses a different proxy. Apple's Finder help page covers customizing the sidebar, the Preview pane, Gallery view, sorting and grouping, Smart Folders, tags, aliases, and syncing iPhone and iPad from the Finder sidebar. Those are the tasks Apple writes help for, which makes them a fair starting list.
The table maps those tasks to a menu path or shortcut, and to the question you can ask Lazur. Menu paths follow Apple's keyboard shortcuts page where it lists a shortcut. If a menu name looks different on your Mac, check the menu bar first.
Finder keyboard shortcuts on Mac by task
| Finder task | Menu path or shortcut | What to ask Lazur |
|---|---|---|
| Show or hide the path bar | View > Show Path Bar, ⌥⌘P | Where is the path bar, and how do I turn it on? |
| Show or hide the sidebar | View > Show Sidebar, ⌥⌘S | Walk me through showing the sidebar again. |
| Show the Preview pane | View > Show Preview, ⇧⌘P | Explain what the Preview pane shows for this file. |
| Switch to Gallery view | View > as Gallery, ⌘4 | What does Gallery view do, and how is it different from List? |
| Open View Options | View > Show View Options, ⌘J | Where do I set sorting and grouping for this folder? |
| Go to a folder by path | Go > Go to Folder, ⇧⌘G | Where is Go to Folder, and what do I type in it? |
| Empty the Trash | Finder > Empty Trash, ⇧⌘⌫ | Walk me through emptying the Trash, one step at a time. |
Most people find the path bar and the sidebar first. Both are one shortcut away. The path bar shows where you are in the folder tree, which saves back-and-forth when you rename or move things. The sidebar holds favorites, tags, and locations you jump to often, so keep it visible if you move between projects.
Ask Lazur where a Finder control is
Pointing is the fastest way to learn a Mac app. Ask where something is, and Lazur draws a circle and a label around the control on your screen. You do not need the exact name of the setting. Describe what you want to change and let Lazur find it.

Pointing only works when the control is visible. If the item sits inside a menu, open the menu first, then ask. Lazur answers from the screen it sees while you hold the keys, so a closed menu hides the item it should circle.
Try this on a Finder window in List view. Hold Option and Command and say: where is the path bar? Watch the circle, then open the View menu yourself and find the matching item. Do the click yourself. That small loop teaches more than a list of shortcuts.
Walk through a Smart Folder on Mac, step by step
Guide mode fits tasks with several steps, like building a Smart Folder. Ask for the walkthrough, and Lazur gives one step, then waits. It does not run ahead. The pace is slower than a video, but you keep your own window and your own clicks, and you can stop at any step.
A Smart Folder saves a search and keeps the results current. Apple's Finder help covers Smart Folders as part of organizing files. Here is the order Lazur follows for a folder that gathers the PDFs you need. Menu names can shift between releases, so Lazur reads the screen at each step.
- Click the Finder window you want to search, so it is the front window.
- Choose File > New Smart Folder from the menu bar.
- Set a rule for the kind of file you want, using the controls in the search bar.
- Give the folder a name, then choose Save.
- Drag the folder to the sidebar if you open it often.
Guide mode works best with one task at a time. Ask for the Smart Folder steps, finish them, then ask for the next task. A long list of tasks in one question makes the answer harder to follow.
Worked example: tidying a Downloads folder with Lazur
Downloads is the folder most people never clean. It collects installers, screenshots, and PDFs from months ago. Here is a realistic session. Open the Downloads folder from the sidebar, then switch to List view with Command-2. Hold Option and Command and ask: what am I looking at? Lazur names the columns and says which one the list is sorted by.
Next, ask where the sort controls are. Lazur circles them and labels them. Then ask for the steps to sort by date modified. It names the control, points at it, and waits. You click. Ask for the next step only after the folder looks the way it should. Going slowly keeps you in charge of every change.
Edge cases come up here. In Icon view, there are no column headers, so Lazur describes icons and labels instead. If you have three Finder windows open, say which one you mean. Otherwise Lazur may describe the front window, which is not the one you wanted. Name the window in plain words, such as the Downloads window, and the answer gets more accurate.
When the folder is sorted, switch to Gallery view with Command-4 to scan previews. Press Shift-Command-P to show the Preview pane if you want a closer look at one file without opening it. Ask Lazur what the Preview pane shows for a PDF. It explains the parts it can see on screen. Delete files yourself after you check them.
Draft and dictate text in Finder on Mac
Finder asks for words more often than most people expect. You name folders, add tags, fill in comment fields, and rename batches of files. Typing each of those by hand is slow. Click into the text box, hold fn, and speak. Lazur types the text at the cursor, with punctuation and formatting.

Snippets and the personal dictionary matter more in Finder than in email. If your client folders follow one naming pattern, save the pattern as a snippet. If a client name comes out wrong, add it to the personal dictionary once. Dictation spells it the way you want after that.
Use drafting when you need words you do not have yet. Ask Lazur to draft a short description for a folder, then read it before you save. Treat a draft as a first version. Dictated text needs the same check, because you still review it before it goes anywhere.
Mistakes people make with an AI assistant in Finder
- Expecting Lazur to move, rename, or delete files. It explains, points, guides, and types text. You still make the clicks and the file changes.
- Asking about a window you already closed. Lazur answers from the screen it sees while you hold the keys, so bring the window back first.
- Trusting an old shortcut list. Apple's shortcut pages differ by region for some Finder keys, so check the menu bar before you teach a shortcut to someone else.
- Assuming Command-F does the same thing everywhere. In a Finder window, Command-F starts a Spotlight search. Test it on your own Mac.
- Asking about private folders as if the question were harmless. Audio and a screenshot go to AI providers to answer. Ask about the controls, not the contents.
Another common slip involves the trial. Lazur's Pro trial starts when you first open the app, not when you read about it. Open it when you are ready to try the Finder walkthroughs, so the trial goes to real work.
Which Macs can run macOS 27 and Lazur
Apple's macOS 27 Golden Gate compatibility page lists the earliest supported models. The earliest models listed are all Apple silicon. The page also lists MacBook Neo. Check that page with your exact model before you plan an upgrade, because the list shows minimums, not every model.
| Mac model on Apple's list | Year on Apple's list |
|---|---|
| MacBook Air (M1) | 2020 |
| MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1) | 2020 |
| iMac 24-inch (M1) | 2021 |
| Mac mini (M1) | 2020 |
| Mac Studio | 2022 |
| Mac Pro | 2023 |
Lazur runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Apple's list shows Apple silicon minimums only. I did not confirm on Apple's full list whether Intel Macs are excluded from macOS 27, so check that before you assume either way.
Timing matters for Finder guides. macOS 27 Golden Gate reached the public on September 14, 2026, according to MacRumors. Apple lists macOS 27.2 as the latest shipped update, dated October 26, 2026. macOS 27.3 is in beta. The 27.2 release notes cover Siri and Mail changes and do not mention Finder.

Operating System Market Share WorldwideWhat Lazur sees and what it keeps
Lazur listens and looks at your screen only while you hold the shortcut. When you hold Option and Command, your question's audio and a screenshot go to AI providers so they can answer. Lazur says neither is stored. It also says that content is never used to train AI models.
Lazur keeps a memory of what you asked and did. That memory stays on your Mac. If a folder holds private records, ask Lazur about the controls, not about the files inside.
This is a practical point, not a legal one. Before you use voice help near client contracts or medical files, check the rules your employer or clients set. Lazur cannot decide what those rules allow.
Spotlight and Finder search: where Lazur fits
Spotlight and Finder search answer a different question. You know a file name or a few words in it, and you want the file. Lazur answers how and where questions about the app itself. Use Command-F in a Finder window to hunt for the file, and ask Lazur when you want to know how the search filters work.
MacRumors says Spotlight on Mac was rebuilt around Search or Ask in macOS 27. I could not confirm what that changes inside Finder. Treat any Spotlight shortcut as something to test on your own Mac.
Lazur is not a plugin or add-in for Finder or any other app. It has no partnership with any app maker, and it does not click or operate other apps for you. It answers, points, guides, and types. You stay in control of the window.
Getting started with an AI assistant for Finder on Mac
Start with one Finder window and one question. Open a folder in List view with View > as List or Command-2. Hold Option and Command and ask what the columns mean. Lazur answers out loud. Then ask Lazur to point at View Options, and check where the circle lands.

After that, try the Smart Folder walkthrough. Then try dictation in a Get Info comment box. Lazur offers a Pro trial with no credit card, and the trial starts when you first open the app. Plans are on the pricing page. You can download Lazur for your Mac when you are ready.
If you edit video, Finder has its own tasks, such as previewing footage and organizing clips. See Finder for video editors on Mac for that workflow.
