Users who want translation while speaking and 100+ languages
Anyone who wants to test a free tier before paying
Start with the work you do most. If you mostly dictate into Mail, Slack, Notes or a document, both apps can do the job. If you also ask where a setting lives, or how to finish a task in an app you rarely open, the two products part ways quickly. Lazur helps you find and do things on the Mac. Typeless focuses on turning speech into clean writing, across more systems.

Lazur Pro free trial, no credit card, starts when you first open the app
Lazur is a voice assistant for the Mac. It lives in the notch at the top of your screen. Hold ⌥ ⌘, which is Option and Command together, to ask about anything on screen. Lazur looks at the screen only while you hold the keys, then answers out loud. Hold fn instead, and it dictates clean, formatted text at the cursor in any app.
Lazur also points. Ask where something is, and it draws a circle and a label around it on your screen. Ask how to do something, and it guides you one click at a time. It waits for each click before it moves on. It does not click for you. It does not press buttons, edit files, or operate other apps.
Everyday tasks work by voice too. You can set timers, add Apple Reminders, create Calendar events, write notes, control music and volume, open apps and links, run web searches and run Shortcuts. Lazur also keeps a memory of what you asked and did. That memory stays on the Mac.
Research is the last big difference. Lazur runs research jobs in its own Chrome tabs, through the Lazur for Chrome extension. When the job ends, it returns a summary and a report. Read the report before you act on it. Typeless does not list a research feature on its homepage.
Finding a button or setting you cannot locate inside an app.
Learning a new app by following one step at a time.
Setting a timer or Reminder without switching windows.
Running a web research job that ends in a written report.
What Typeless does better
Typeless covers more systems. Its homepage lists macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. If you dictate on a Windows PC and on an iPhone, one account may fit your week better. Lazur runs on the Mac only. Windows is planned, but it is not available yet.
Typeless also covers more languages. Its homepage lists 100+ languages and translation while you speak. It removes filler words, keeps your final version after a self-correction, and formats lists. This page does not compare language coverage for Lazur, so check the Lazur site if you write in more than one language.
Typeless lets you set a tone, keep a personal dictionary and set a style for each app. Its Pro plan adds cloud sync. It also has voice commands that edit selected text. Lazur has a personal dictionary, snippets and clipboard slots. This page does not list a selected-text editing command for Lazur.
Typeless also says it is 4x faster than typing. That is company marketing, not a measured result. The only speed research on this page is from 2016, and it did not test Typeless. You can read those numbers in the research section below.
Ratings and reviews: small samples, mixed signals
Typeless has 4.5 out of 5 from 811 ratings on the App Store. The current version there is 2.10.0. Product Hunt shows 4.9 from 11 reviews. Trustpilot shows 3.5 from 3 reviews. These samples are small. Use them as a loose signal, not a verdict.
Reviewers praise speed, accuracy and filler-word removal. Critics want more personalization settings. Some say automatic app use is limited on iPhone. One reports a lost emoji key. One says there is no Android version, which conflicts with the homepage. A competitor review cites 2.6 out of 5 from about 6 Trustpilot reviews, so the numbers disagree.
Typeless pricing and Lazur pricing, side by side
Typeless has three tiers. Free costs $0 USD per member per month and has limited words. Pro costs $12 USD per member per month billed yearly, or $30 USD per member per month billed monthly. Enterprise is custom priced. Pro adds unlimited words, enhanced accuracy, priority access and team management.
The free word limit is unclear. The pricing page says only Limited words. A competitor review says 8,000 words a week. The same review's teaser says the free plan fell from 8,000 to 2,000 words a week. Treat any number as unverified until you test the app yourself.
Lazur has no free plan. You get a 3-day Pro trial with no credit card. The trial starts when you first open the app. After the trial, Pro costs $18/month, or $15/month billed annually, with 150 AI actions. Power costs $120/month, or $96/month billed annually, with 1,000 AI actions. Dictation is unlimited on both plans.
A worked example with annual and monthly prices
Start with annual billing. Typeless Pro at $12 a month is $144 a year. The App Store lists Typeless Pro in-app prices of $143.99, so check which price you will see. Lazur Pro at $15 a month billed annually is $180 a year. On paper, Typeless is $36 cheaper.
Monthly billing flips the order. Typeless Pro is $30 a month. Lazur Pro is $18 a month. If you might cancel after a few months, Lazur costs less per month. If you commit for a full year, Typeless costs less per year.
The gap is not the whole story. Lazur's price covers an assistant that points, guides and runs everyday tasks. Its 150 AI actions limit those tasks on Pro. Dictation stays unlimited. Typeless Pro gives unlimited words, so pick by the work you do most, not by price alone.
Privacy: what each app says about your audio and screen
Lazur listens and looks at the screen only while you hold the shortcut. Audio and the screenshot go to AI providers so Lazur can answer. They are not stored. Lazur says content is never used to train AI models.
Typeless's privacy policy says it runs a zero data retention policy. Audio and contextual information are processed in real time on its cloud servers, then discarded. The policy says no voice recordings or screen context data are stored on its servers. Data sent to third-party AI providers, including Microsoft and Google, is never used to train those services. The policy was last updated Oct 13, 2026.
The homepage and the policy do not match on one point. The homepage calls history on-device. The policy describes cloud processing of audio. A competitor review says the on-device claim refers to where history is stored, not where audio is transcribed. The homepage also claims ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA compliance. This page has not verified those claims.

Platforms: Mac only, or several systems
If you use only a Mac, the platform list will not decide this. Lazur runs on macOS, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows is planned, not available. If you also use Windows, Linux or a phone, Typeless fits better, based on its homepage.
Check the Android claim before you pay. The homepage lists Android. A Product Hunt reviewer says there is no Android version. Confirm iOS in the App Store listing, and confirm Android in the store where you would install it. Do that first, so you do not buy a plan you cannot use.
How to choose between Lazur and Typeless
Start with where you work. Then look at what you ask your tools to do. These cases cover most readers.
You dictate into Mail, Notes and Google Docs on one Mac. Either app can do this. Test both with the same passage and compare the cleanup.
You switch between a Mac and a Windows PC every day. Pick Typeless, because Lazur is Mac only.
You often cannot find a setting, or you forget how to finish a task in an app. Pick Lazur, because it points at things and guides you one click at a time.
You want research done in the background and returned as a report. Pick Lazur, because it runs research in its own Chrome tabs.
You want a free tier before you pay. Typeless has one. Lazur offers a 3-day Pro trial instead.
Mistakes people make when comparing these apps
Treating the free options as equal. Typeless Free has a word limit. Lazur has a trial and no free plan.
Reading the 4x claim as a test result. It is company marketing.
Judging either app by a 2016 study. That study used an iPhone 6 Plus and an older speech engine, not Typeless.
Trusting the homepage privacy line without reading the policy.
Comparing Pro prices without checking the billing period. Monthly and annual prices point in opposite directions.
Testing with one clean sentence. Use a messy voice note with a false start and a correction.
What the speed research says about dictation
A 2016 arXiv study compared speech and keyboard entry on touchscreen phones. Speech entry was 2.93 times faster than the keyboard for English, at 153 words per minute against 52. The corrected error rate was 5.30% for speech and 11.22% for the keyboard. Speech left more uncorrected errors in the final text, at 1.30% against 0.79%.
Use these numbers as background, not as a verdict on either app. The study used an iPhone 6 Plus and a 2016 speech engine. Neither Lazur nor Typeless was tested. The lesson still holds for both apps. Speech is faster, and you still need to check the final text before you send it.

A test you can run this afternoon
Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and confirm that the app you use has access.
Install the Lazur trial from the Lazur site, or install Typeless from its site. Check the platform list first.
Dictate the same messy voice note into each app. Include a false start and one correction.
Compare the results. Did filler words go? Did your final correction stay?
Ask Lazur to walk you through any setting you cannot find, one click at a time.
Check the free word limit inside Typeless before you rely on it.
Neither app is better for every job. Lazur is the better pick if you want a Mac voice assistant that points at things and guides you. Typeless is the better pick if you need dictation on Windows, Linux or a phone. Test both with the same messy voice note before you pay.
Does Typeless have a free plan?
Yes. Typeless Free costs $0 USD per member per month and has limited words. The pricing page does not state a number. A competitor review says 8,000 words a week, and its teaser says 2,000. Check the limit inside the app.
Does Lazur have a free plan?
No free plan is listed. Lazur offers a 3-day Pro trial with no credit card. The trial starts when you first open the app. After the trial, Pro costs $18/month, or $15/month billed annually.
Does Lazur work on Windows?
Not yet. Lazur runs on macOS, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows is planned, but it is not available. If you need Windows today, look at Typeless or another tool.
Does Lazur or Typeless store my audio?
Lazur says audio and screenshots go to AI providers to answer you, and are not stored. Typeless says its policy is zero data retention, with audio processed in real time and then discarded. Read both policies yourself, because the Typeless homepage and its policy describe history differently.
Is Typeless cheaper than Lazur?
On annual billing, yes, on paper. Typeless Pro billed yearly is $12 a month, or $144 a year. Lazur Pro billed annually is $15 a month, or $180 a year. On monthly billing, Lazur is cheaper, at $18 a month against $30.
Does Lazur click buttons for me?
No. Lazur does not click buttons, edit files, or operate other apps for you. It circles things on screen, labels them, and guides you one click at a time while it waits for each click.
Product names belong to their owners. Lazur is not affiliated with Typeless. Prices and features come from each company's own site on the date shown; check there before you buy.
