Lazur and Raycast in plain terms
Lazur lives in the notch at the top of your Mac screen. You hold ⌥ ⌘, which is Option plus Command, and ask a question about anything on screen. Lazur looks at the screen only while you hold the shortcut, then answers out loud. It is built for the moment you are stuck in an app and want an answer without leaving the window.
Raycast starts as a launcher. You press a hotkey, type a few letters, and open a file, app, command or extension. Its homepage calls it a collection of productivity tools inside an extendable launcher. The list includes Clipboard History, Window Management, File Search, Calculator, Calendar, Notes, Focus and Translation. One reviewer says the free plan can replace Spotlight, Magnet and a basic clipboard manager. That is an opinion from an article with affiliate links.

How Lazur answers a question about your screen
Say you are in a spreadsheet and cannot find the export option. Hold ⌥ ⌘ and ask where it is. Lazur draws a circle and a label around the control on your screen, and it answers out loud. You still do the click. That split is the point of the product. Lazur shows you the way, and you stay in control of the app.
When the task has several steps, ask Lazur to walk you through it. It guides you one click at a time and waits for each click before it moves on. That is slower than a macro, but you learn the app as you go. Do not expect it to press the button, edit the file or switch apps for you. Lazur does not operate other apps.
Set timers and ask how long is left.
Add Apple Reminders and Calendar events.
Write and open notes.
Control music and volume.
Open apps and links, and run a web search.
Run Shortcuts.
Lazur also runs research in the background. Those jobs run in Lazur's own Chrome tabs through the Lazur for Chrome extension. When a job finishes, Lazur returns a summary and a report. You can keep working while it runs. Set up the Chrome extension before you ask for research, so the job has a browser to use.
How Raycast handles a launcher task
Raycast is fastest when you already know what you want. Press the hotkey, type the name of a file, a window or a command, and press Return. You never leave the keyboard. Raycast also lists hotkeys, aliases, Quicklinks and Snippets, so you can build shortcuts for the things you do every day.
Raycast AI works from the same launcher. The homepage lists Raycast AI and Quick AI, a hotkey prompt for a fast typed question. The homepage does not list a feature that sees your screen or points at controls. If that matters to you, check the current feature list before you buy. Its feature list changes between versions.
Extensions are where Raycast grows. The homepage says developers can build an extension once for macOS and Windows. They use a strongly typed API, built-in UI components and hot-reloading, then publish to the Raycast Store. If you are a developer, that matters. If you are not, you mostly install ready-made extensions and stop thinking about them.
Where Raycast is the better pick
You want one launcher for files, windows, calculator, emoji and notes, all from the keyboard.
You want clipboard history that lasts. Free keeps 3 months, and paid plans keep it unlimited.
You want extensions from a store, or you want to build your own.
You use Windows as well as a Mac and want the same launcher on both.
You want to try the core launcher for free. The free plan has no AI credits, but the basic tools work.
Where Lazur is the better pick
You want to ask about what is on your screen and hear the answer.
You want a circle drawn on the control you need, not a menu search.
You want step-by-step guidance that waits for each click.
You dictate a lot. Hold fn to type clean text at the cursor in any app, with snippets, a personal dictionary and clipboard slots. Dictation is unlimited on Pro and Power.
You want background research in Chrome tabs that comes back as a report.
Raycast pricing compared with Lazur pricing
Lazur Pro costs $18/month. Billed annually, it is $15/month, and it includes 150 AI actions. Lazur Power costs $120/month, or $96/month billed annually, and includes 1,000 AI actions. Both include unlimited dictation. Lazur starts with a 3-day Pro trial and no credit card. The trial starts when you first open the app.
Raycast's Individual plans start with a free plan at $0. Pro costs $10/month or $96/year. Plus costs $20/month or $192/year. Max costs $50/month or $480/year. Teams plans are priced per user, from $0 on Teams Free to $65/month per user on Teams Max. Enterprise is custom and annual only.
The monthly prices are easy to compare, but the plans are not the same product. Raycast Pro at $10/month costs less than Lazur Pro at $18/month. Raycast Plus at $20/month costs more than Lazur Pro. Lazur Power at $120/month costs far more than any Raycast Individual plan, and it buys a different kind of help.
$18/month
Lazur Pro per month. Billed annually, it drops to $15/month.
Raycast counts AI in credits, and Lazur counts AI actions. The two do not map cleanly. Raycast Pro includes 500 AI credits per month, Plus includes 3,000 and Max includes 7,500. Lazur Pro includes 150 AI actions and Power includes 1,000. Do not assume 500 credits equals 150 actions. Count a normal week of use on each app, then compare.
Privacy: what each app sends and keeps
Lazur listens and looks at your screen only while you hold the shortcut. Audio and the screenshot go to AI providers so Lazur can answer. Lazur says they are not stored, and it says your content is never used to train AI models. Lazur also keeps a memory of what you asked and did, on the Mac itself.
Raycast says every model provided by Raycast AI is Zero Data Retention. It says it does not log or retain your prompts, and that your data is not used to train AI models. The exception is the Claude model on its AI privacy page. Anthropic keeps data for 30 days to detect serious harm, and that model does not offer ZDR. Mistral keeps a rolling 30 days, and xAI keeps 30 days.
Raycast's privacy policy says microphone access is used only when you invoke a voice feature, and that Raycast does not passively monitor audio. It says Raycast does not sell personal data or share it for interest-based advertising. The policy does not state analytics or crash-reporting defaults, so ask Raycast if that matters to you.

Platforms: a Mac app or a Mac and Windows app
Lazur runs on macOS, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows is planned but not available. If your team is split between Mac and Windows, Lazur cannot cover both yet.
Raycast is a macOS app first, and it now runs on Windows too. Raycast announced Windows in public beta on November 20, 2025. Its Windows changelog says Raycast 2.0 left beta on August 25, 2026. The Windows post also said AI Chat and Notes would come to Windows in the coming months. Check which features your Windows build includes.
Worked examples: three everyday tasks
Example one is a hidden setting. You open a photo app and want to change the export format. Hold ⌥ ⌘ and ask where the setting is. Lazur circles the control and labels it. Raycast can open the app quickly, but its feature list does not include pointing at controls inside another app. You would search the menus yourself.
Example two is a timer and a calendar event. Say you need a 10-minute timer and a Calendar event for a call at 3 pm. Lazur handles both by voice, since timers and Calendar events are on its everyday list. Raycast lists Calendar and Focus commands. Check whether they create events the way you want before you rely on them.
Example three is a reply in Mail. Hold fn and speak. Lazur dictation types clean, formatted text at the cursor, and it can expand snippets you saved. Raycast's Windows 2.0 changelog says Dictation is now part of Raycast Pro, so you would use Raycast's dictation on the Pro plan. Test both on your own emails, not on a demo.
Mistakes people make when they compare these two
Expecting Lazur to be a full launcher. It opens apps and links by voice, but its product description does not list extensions or file search.
Expecting Raycast to point at buttons on screen. Its homepage does not list that feature.
Comparing 500 Raycast AI credits with 150 Lazur AI actions as if they were the same unit.
Installing Lazur before you are ready. The 3-day trial starts when you first open the app.
Ignoring Raycast's 3-month clipboard limit on the free plan. Save anything important to a snippet or a note.
Trusting one privacy page. Raycast's pages disagree on AI Memory.
What to do next
Write down the three tasks you do most in a week. Mark which need screen help and which need a launcher.
If screen help matters most, get Lazur and start the 3-day trial.
If a launcher matters most, install Raycast and use the free plan for a week before you pay.
Check Lazur pricing and Raycast's pricing page at raycast.com/pricing on the day you buy.
Ask Raycast to clarify the AI Memory default before you turn on AI features.
The two trials work differently. Raycast's Windows 2.0 changelog says signing in gives a 7-day Pro trial with no card. Lazur's trial is 3 days, with no card. Start the one that matches the platform you use every day.
G2 shows Raycast at 4.7 out of 5 from 16 reviews. The most common praise is the breadth of productivity tools. The most common complaints are setup complexity and the learning curve. Sixteen reviews is a small sample, so treat the score as a hint, not a verdict.
A devtoolsreviewed article from March 2026 calls Raycast the fastest Mac keyboard launcher. It says the free tier can replace Spotlight, Magnet and a basic clipboard manager. The article uses affiliate links, and it is an opinion piece. This page does not cite an independent review of Lazur.

Questions people ask
Is Lazur a replacement for Raycast?
Not really. Lazur is a voice assistant that sees your screen. Raycast is a launcher with extensions and clipboard history. They overlap a little, since both open apps and both offer dictation. Most people need one of them first. If you want both, install both and see which one you open more often.
Does Raycast have a feature that points at things on my screen?
Not that its homepage lists. Raycast lists Quick AI, a hotkey prompt for typed questions, and Raycast AI. The homepage does not describe circling controls or walking you through steps. Check the current feature list on raycast.com before you decide, because the product changes often.
Which one costs less?
On the monthly plans, Raycast Pro at $10/month costs less than Lazur Pro at $18/month. Raycast Plus at $20/month costs more than Lazur Pro. Lazur Pro includes unlimited dictation, and Raycast meters its AI in credits. Compare the plan you would actually use, not the cheapest one.
Can I use Lazur on Windows?
Not yet. Lazur runs on macOS, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows is planned, but it is not available. Raycast runs on Windows, and its 2.0 release left beta on August 25, 2026, according to the Windows changelog.
Does Raycast train its AI on my prompts?
Raycast says no. Its AI privacy page says all Raycast AI models are Zero Data Retention, and that your data is not used to train AI models. The exception is the Claude model on its list, where Anthropic keeps data for 30 days to detect serious harm. Read the page before you pick a model.
Does Lazur click buttons or edit files for me?
No. Lazur does not click buttons, edit files or operate other apps. It points, guides and answers out loud. For multi-step tasks, it guides you one click at a time and waits for each click. It can also draft and type text for you.
Is Raycast's free plan enough?
For a launcher, it can be. The free plan includes the core tools. It has no AI credits, and clipboard history is kept for 3 months. Cloud Sync is on paid plans only. If you need AI or a long clipboard history, you need a paid plan.
Why does Raycast's privacy page disagree on AI Memory?
Raycast's AI privacy page says AI Memory is opt-in. Its privacy policy says it is enabled by default for relevant versions. This page cannot settle which statement is current. Check the setting in Raycast and ask Raycast to clarify in writing.
Product names belong to their owners. Lazur is not affiliated with Raycast. Prices and features come from each company's own site on the date shown; check there before you buy.
