Lazur for designers
AI assistant for designers Mac: voice help in Figma, Photoshop and Slack in 2026
An AI assistant for designers on Mac is a voice helper that sees the app you are using and answers out loud. It points at controls, explains settings and guides you one step at a time, but it does not click for you. Lazur is one example. It works in Figma, Photoshop, Canva, Slack and Linear, and it dictates text into any app.
You say“Why won't this card stay the same height when the title wraps?”
Lazur · points at itLazur circles the Auto layout section in the right panel and explains the fixed height setting.
Quick answer
- Most of a designer's computer time goes to coordination. Studies of knowledge workers put communicating and work about work well above making things.
- An AI assistant for designers on Mac should point, explain, guide and dictate. It should not click buttons or edit your files.
- Hold ⌥⌘ to ask about the open app. Hold fn to dictate into any text field.
- Client work comes first. Check your contract and employer rules before you share unreleased files with any AI tool.

Coordination eats the week
Within Microsoft 365, communicating takes 57% of time and creating takes 43%. Asana's wider survey puts 60% on work about work. These are knowledge-worker numbers, not designer numbers.
The inbox and chat never stop
The average worker gets 117 emails a day and 153 Teams messages on a weekday. An interruption arrives about every two minutes during core hours.
Finding the right file takes time
Locating documents sits inside Asana's 60% category, next to communicating and shifting priorities. Each hunt for the right version pulls you out of the layout.
Shifting priorities break focus
Asana counts shifting priorities as part of that 60%. A new request in the middle of a layout resets your attention. You rebuild context, then lose it when the next message lands.
Software costs add up
Adobe's single apps list at US$22.99 a month each. Creative Cloud Standard lists at US$54.99 a month. Pick the plan that matches the apps you open each week.
The job market is shrinking slowly
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 2% employment decline for graphic designers from 2025 to 2035. That is about 4,200 jobs. Time saved on admin can go to paid design work.
A designer's day with Lazur
Real things to say. Each one is a single hold of ⌥ ⌘.
- 08:45
“What came in overnight that needs a reply from me?”
Lazur reads the open Slack window and says out loud which threads need a decision and which can wait.
Explains what's on screen
- 09:10
“Remind me to send the moodboard before standup.”
Lazur adds the reminder to Apple Reminders at the time you name, so it shows up on your Mac.
Handles the small stuff
- 09:40
“Where is the export panel in this file?”
Lazur draws a circle and a label around the export panel on your screen, then waits while you go there.
Points at it
- 10:20
“Walk me through making these cards resize with their text.”
Lazur guides you one step at a time in Figma and waits for each click before it gives the next step.
Walks you through it
- 11:05
“Handoff note: the icon set is final, the nav labels still need copy.”
Lazur types clean, formatted text at your cursor in any app while you hold fn.
Types what you say
- 12:30
“Research how banking apps handle empty states on iPhone.”
Lazur runs the search in its own Chrome tabs and comes back with a summary and a report.
Researches in the background
- 14:15
“Draft a polite reply saying the logo change adds a few days.”
Lazur drafts the reply in your tone. You read it, edit it and send it yourself.
Drafts it
- 16:50
“Open the handoff file and the Linear ticket linked to it.”
Lazur opens the files and links you name on your Mac. It does not operate those apps after that.

What an AI assistant for designers on Mac actually does
An AI assistant for designers on Mac listens when you ask, looks at what is on your screen, and answers in plain language. It should point at the control you mean, explain why it behaves that way, and tell you the next step. It should not take over the app. That last part matters more than most people expect.
Lazur works this way. It lives in the notch at the top of your screen. You hold ⌥⌘ and ask about whatever is open. It answers out loud. Ask where something is, and it draws a circle and a label around it. Ask how to do something, and it guides you one click at a time, waiting for each click before it moves on.
That split is the point. The assistant does the finding, the reading and the typing. You do the clicking, the design decisions and the sending. Lazur does not click buttons, edit files or operate other apps for you. It is not a plugin or add-in for any app, and it has no partnership with any app maker.
Where a designer's computer time actually goes
No study we found measures how designers spend their week. The numbers here cover knowledge workers in general. Use them as a starting point, then check your own week with a calendar and a simple tally.
Microsoft's 2023 Work Trend Index found that, within Microsoft 365, the average person spends 57% of their time communicating and 43% creating. That comes from Microsoft's own app activity. The page does not define what counts as creating, so read it as a rough signal, not a measurement of design work.

The Way We Work Isn't Working (Asana)89%
of 906 designers surveyed by Figma say they work faster, a self-reported figure with no hours
State of the Designer 2026 (Figma)Asana's Anatomy of Work research, based on more than 10,000 knowledge workers, finds about a quarter of time goes to skills-based work. Another 13% goes to strategic planning. The remaining 60% goes to communicating about tasks, locating documents and handling shifting priorities. Asana names designing once as skills-based work, but gives no designer breakdown.
Two things stand out. Coordination takes more of the week than making things does, in both studies. Most of that coordination is searching, asking and switching. Those are the tasks an assistant can shorten without touching your design judgment.

The email and chat load behind those numbers
Microsoft's 2025 Work Trend Index surveyed 31,000 knowledge workers across 31 markets. The average worker receives 117 emails a day, and most are skimmed in under 60 seconds. A client thread can sit unread in a pile of internal chatter all morning.
The same report counts 153 Teams messages per weekday on average. It also finds an interruption every two minutes during core hours, 275 times a day, from meetings, email and chat. A two-minute interruption is short. Getting back into a dense Figma file after one is not.
Where the design apps fit into a Mac workday
Most designers on a Mac run several tools at once. Figma holds the layouts. An Adobe app handles photos or icons. Canva makes social cuts. Slack and Linear carry the decisions. Each one has its own menus and shortcuts, and an assistant earns its place when it can work across all of them.
Figma's desktop app for Mac needs macOS 12 or later, according to Figma's help guide. Figma also says support for older versions is removed six months after a release. The minimum can change, so check the live requirements before you upgrade or buy a new machine.
Open file tabs sit in the navigation bar in the desktop app. The tab menu in the top right lists open and recently closed tabs across all windows. If you present often, go to View > Always Show Tabs When Presenting. That option is available only on Mac.

Adobe costs: check which plan you need before you buy
Adobe lists Photoshop and Illustrator as single apps at US$22.99 a month each, on an annual plan billed monthly. Creative Cloud Standard is US$54.99 a month. The Photography plan is US$19.99 a month. These are US prices from Adobe's plans page, and they can change.
| Adobe plan (US) | Price per month | Check before you buy |
|---|---|---|
| Photoshop single app | US$22.99 | Photo edits, mockups, raster work |
| Illustrator single app | US$22.99 | Vector icons, logos, print layouts |
| Creative Cloud Standard | US$54.99 | Confirm which apps are included |
| Photography plan | US$19.99 | Confirm the apps for photo work |
Adobe's Creative Cloud Pro is listed at US$34.99 a month for the first three months for new subscribers, then US$69.99 a month. That intro rate is the number to watch. Put the end date in Apple Reminders the day you sign up. Lazur can set that reminder by voice.
Where a voice assistant helps inside each app
In Figma, Lazur helps with settings you cannot find, such as Auto layout, component properties and export. It points at the panel and explains the option. It does not change the setting for you.
In Photoshop, the command you need is often one menu deeper than you expect. Image > Image Size is the usual route for a client who wants a bigger file. The shortcut is ⌥⌘I. Ask Lazur to point at the menu, then press the shortcut yourself.
In Canva, Lazur explains resize and brand kit options in plain words. It can draft captions when you dictate the brief. You still check every caption against the brand rules before you post.
In Slack and Linear, Lazur reads the open window and tells you which threads or tickets need a decision today. It drafts replies on request. Hold fn when you want to speak a reply instead of typing it.
A worked example: dictating a handoff note
Say you finish a card component late in the afternoon. The handoff note should cover the states, the spacing values, what breaks on small screens, the copy still pending and the file link. Speaking a note like that is often faster than typing it. You can test that with the speaking vs typing test below.
Put the cursor in the Slack message to the developer, hold fn, and speak the note. Read it back before you send it. Dictation trips on product names, component names and file names, so check those first. Fix them once, then add them to your personal dictionary so they stick.
Store the standard closing line as a snippet. Say the short phrase, and the full line appears at the cursor. Clipboard slots keep the file link handy for the next note. The same text can then go into a Linear ticket without retyping anything.
To test the speed gap first, try the speaking vs typing test. For the Slack setup, see AI assistant for Slack on Mac.
Mistakes designers make with an AI assistant
- Asking it for a design verdict. Ask what a setting does, not whether the layout is good. A taste call belongs to you and your client.
- Trusting dictated names. Speech tools mishear product and file names. Read every name before it goes into a file, a ticket or an email.
- Expecting it to click. Lazur points and guides. You do the click, and Lazur waits for it.
- Forgetting the hold. Lazur listens and looks only while you hold the shortcut. Release the key and it stops.
- Sharing unreleased client work without checking the rules. Your contract and your employer decide what can leave your machine.
- Skipping the test run. Try one real task in your own file during the first session, then check the answer in the app.
Privacy, client work and the rules you still follow

Lazur listens and looks at your screen only while you hold the shortcut. Audio and the screenshot go to AI providers to answer you. They are not stored, and content is never used to train AI models.
That is the vendor's policy. It does not decide what your client allows. Many studios and agencies have written rules on unreleased work, NDAs and third-party tools. Read those rules before you hold the key over a client file. If the rules are unclear, ask your account lead or legal contact.
Price, platform and where to start on Mac
Lazur is a Mac app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows is planned, not available. It starts with a trial, and no credit card is needed. The current plans are on the pricing page. Check that page for exact amounts, since it is the source to trust for them.
Download Lazur from the download page. Grant the permissions it asks for, then test both keys. Hold ⌥⌘ and ask about the open app. Then hold fn and dictate one line into a text field.
A first-week checklist for designers
- Open Lazur once after you install it, and check that it appears in the notch.
- Hold ⌥⌘ and ask what the open panel does. Listen for the spoken answer.
- Ask where one control is. Watch for the circle and the label.
- Hold fn and dictate a single line into a Slack draft. Read it back before you send.
- Ask Lazur to walk you through one task you repeat every week, one click at a time.
The job market and why your time matters
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics counted about 253,100 graphic designer jobs in 2025, with median pay of $62,960 a year. It projects a 2% employment decline from 2025 to 2035, a net change of about 4,200 jobs. The drop is small, but it means fewer openings to go around.
Use the job numbers to set goals, not to panic. A tool that saves a few minutes a day only matters if you spend that time on design work. Measure where the minutes go before you decide what to automate.
Who should skip this
Skip it if your studio blocks AI tools, and wait until someone checks the rules. Skip it if you mostly sketch on paper, since a voice assistant adds little there. Skip it if you want a tool that clicks for you. Lazur is built to point and guide, not to operate the app.
What to do next
Pick one app and one slow task. Track how often you ask for help and where you get stuck. Use that log to decide whether the subscription fits your work. Your own week tells you more than any feature list.
