How to snooze an email in Gmail on Mac: steps for Safari and Chrome
Open Gmail at mail.google.com in Safari or Chrome, hover over the email, and click the clock icon marked Snooze. Pick a time, such as Tomorrow or Next week, and the email returns to the top of your inbox then.

Quick answer
- Google has no Gmail app for Mac, so you snooze in a browser at mail.google.com.
- Hover over an email, click the clock icon, then pick a later day and time.
- To snooze several emails, select them and click Snooze, or click More, then Snooze.
- Turn on keyboard shortcuts, then press B to snooze the selected email. No Command key is needed.
- Find snoozed mail under Mail, then Snoozed, or search for in:snoozed.
What you need
- A Mac with Safari or Chrome
- A Gmail account you can sign in to at mail.google.com
- Keyboard shortcuts turned on, if you want to use the B key
How to Snooze an email in Gmail on Mac in Gmail on a Mac
Open Gmail in your browser
Open Safari or Chrome on your Mac. Go to mail.google.com and sign in. Snooze works only in Gmail on the web, because Google has no Gmail app for Mac.
Turn on keyboard shortcuts (optional)
Skip this step if you only use the clock icon. To use the B key, open Settings, choose See all settings, and switch Keyboard shortcuts on. Then click Save Changes.
Tip: Shortcuts do nothing until this is on, so check it first if B fails.
Hover over the email
Move your pointer over the message in your inbox. A clock icon appears on the right side of its row. Keep the pointer on the row until you click.
Click the clock icon and pick a time
Click the clock icon. Choose Later today, Tomorrow, This weekend, Next week, or Pick date & time. Use Pick date & time to set an exact day and hour.
Tip: Presets come from a third-party guide, so read the time on screen before you click.
Snooze several emails at once
Select each message with its checkbox. Click Snooze at the top of the page. If Snooze is not visible, click More, then Snooze.
Tip: Group messages that need the same follow-up, such as three quotes due Monday.
Snooze with the B key
B
Click the message to select it. Press B. No Command, Option, or Control key is needed.
Tip: If B does nothing, click the message first, so the search box is not active.
Find snoozed mail
Click Mail in the left sidebar, then click Snoozed. Or click the search bar and type in:snoozed.
Tip: Searching for in:snoozed works even when you cannot find the sidebar item.
Check Google Calendar's time zone
Before you snooze across a time change, open Google Calendar and check its time zone. Gmail uses that setting for snooze times, not your Mac clock.
Tip: Carly says mismatches cause wrong snooze times, especially on trips.
Before you start: Gmail on Mac runs in a browser
Google does not make a Gmail app for Mac. Mailmeteor's guide, updated January 12, 2026, says there is no native Gmail desktop app for Mac. So every snooze happens in a browser at mail.google.com.
Safari, Chrome, and other browsers all work. The steps in this guide are the same in each one. Snooze is not available in classic Gmail, so use the current Gmail view.

Gmail is entering the Gemini era, Google BlogSnooze one email with the clock icon
Move your pointer over an email in your inbox. A clock icon appears on the right side of its row. Click that icon to open the snooze options.
Google's help page says to choose a later day and time, and the email returns to the top of your inbox. It names tomorrow, next week, and the evening as options.
Google does not list the full preset menu. A third-party guide from Carly, published May 5, 2026, lists the defaults below. Check your own screen, because the list can change.
| Preset | Default time (per Carly's guide) |
|---|---|
| Later today | 4 hours later, or 6:00 PM |
| Tomorrow | 8:00 AM the next day |
| This weekend | Saturday 8:00 AM, shown Monday to Friday only |
| Next week | Monday 8:00 AM |
| Pick date & time | Any day and time you set |
The preset times matter. A Tomorrow snooze at 8:00 AM returns before most morning meetings. If you need 9:30 AM, choose Pick date & time and set the hour yourself.
Snooze several emails at once
Select each message with its checkbox. Click Snooze at the top of the page. If you do not see Snooze, click More, then Snooze. Google's help page gives both paths.
Group messages that share a follow-up day. For example, three vendor quotes you plan to review on Monday belong together. Batching them keeps your inbox readable.
Use the B key to snooze faster
The B key snoozes the selected conversation. Google's keyboard shortcut page lists b for Snooze, e for Archive, and Shift + I for Mark as read.
Shortcuts stay off until you turn them on. Open Settings, choose See all settings, switch Keyboard shortcuts on, and click Save Changes. Then press B.
Snooze and archive use no modifier key. Mark as read uses Shift + I, which is the same Shift key you use for capitals. Command and Control do nothing for snooze.
| Key on Mac | Action | Modifier key |
|---|---|---|
| B | Snooze | None |
| E | Archive | None |
| Shift + I | Mark as read | Shift is part of the key |
Find snoozed email again
Snoozed mail leaves your inbox. It stays out until the time you chose. Then it returns to the top of the inbox.
To see all snoozed mail, click Mail in the left sidebar, then Snoozed. You can also type in:snoozed into the search bar at the top of the page.
Here is a worked example. You snooze a contract on Thursday at 9:00 AM. It returns to your inbox that Thursday. If you lose it before then, search in:snoozed and add the sender's name.

Why snoozed email can show up early in Apple Mail
Some people add Gmail to Apple Mail on the Mac. Carly lists Apple Mail as an IMAP client. It says these clients may show snoozed emails early, because they do not honor the Snoozed label.
Snooze in the Gmail web page instead. Carly recommends official Gmail apps, and Google has no Mac app, so the browser is the safest place to snooze. If you also use Apple Mail, read how to add Gmail to Apple Mail on Mac first.

Time zones can move your snooze time
Gmail sets snooze times with the time zone in Google Calendar. It does not use the time zone on your Mac. Carly says mismatches cause wrong snooze times, especially while you travel.
Before a trip, check the time zone in Google Calendar. Suppose your Mac clock shows Chicago but Calendar shows Pacific. An 8:00 AM snooze can then return at an hour you did not expect.
What happens when someone replies
A reply before the snooze time returns the thread to your inbox. Carly says this happens, and that muting the thread prevents it.
If you expect replies, mute the conversation before you snooze it. The steps are in the guide to muting a conversation in Gmail on Mac.
Common mistakes when you snooze
- Snoozing mail you never need again. Snoozed mail returns on its own. Archive what you are done with instead.
- Picking a preset without reading the time. Presets are defaults, so check the time before you click.
- Snoozing a thread in Apple Mail. Snoozed threads can reappear early in IMAP clients, so use the browser.
- Pressing B while the search box is active. The letter goes into the search. Click the message first.
- Ignoring the time zone on a trip. Check Google Calendar before you snooze anything across a time change.
Keep Gmail in its own window with a web app
A Gmail window is handy if you use Gmail all day. In Safari on macOS Sonoma 14 or later, open Gmail, then choose File > Add to Dock. Apple also lets you click Share in the toolbar and choose Add to Dock.
Type a name, then click Add. In Chrome, look for Create a shortcut, then choose Open as window, as Mailmeteor's guide describes. The snooze steps stay the same inside the window.
A simple weekly routine for snoozed mail
Microsoft's Work Trend Index says workers are interrupted every two minutes during core work hours. That works out to 275 times a day, counting meetings, emails, and chats together. Email alone is only part of that count.
A simple routine helps. Check Mail, then Snoozed, once each morning. At the end of the week, search in:snoozed and archive anything that no longer matters.

|---|---|
| Snooze the selected email | B |
| Archive the selected email | E |
| Mark as read | ShiftI |
If it does not work
- The clock icon or Snooze button is missing
- With several messages selected, click More, then Snooze. If neither appears, check that you are using the current Gmail view, since Google says snooze is not available in classic Gmail.
- Pressing B does nothing
- Open Settings, choose See all settings, switch Keyboard shortcuts on, and click Save Changes. Then click the message first, so the search box is not active.
- A snoozed email seems to have vanished
- Click Mail, then Snoozed, or search for in:snoozed. Snoozed email returns to the top of your inbox at the time you chose.
- A snoozed email reappeared early in Apple Mail
- Apple Mail over IMAP may not honor Gmail's Snoozed label. Snooze in the Gmail web page instead.
- A reply brought the email back before the snooze time
- A reply returns the thread to your inbox. Mute the conversation before you snooze it if you expect replies.
- The snooze time is off by several hours
- Gmail uses the time zone in Google Calendar, not your Mac clock. Check Calendar's time zone, then snooze the email again.
