Slack for social media managers on Mac: approvals, reminders and check-ins for 2026
Slack on a Mac works well for social media managers as the team's approval and check-in room. It does not publish posts for you, so use it to collect feedback, set reminders and schedule messages around the work. This page covers the channel setup, shortcuts and limits that matter for that job, and where Lazur fits in.
You say“Where do I find the posts I scheduled for Thursday?”
Lazur · points at itLazur circles Drafts & sent at the top of the sidebar and labels it. You click it to open the list.
Quick answer
- Use one Slack channel per client, and keep each approval in its own thread.
- Focus a message and press A to save it. Press M to turn it into a reminder.
- Channel reminders cannot be edited. Run /remind list, delete the reminder and create a new one.
- Scheduled messages wait under Drafts & sent at the top of the sidebar.
- Hold ⌥ ⌘ to ask Lazur where a button is. Lazur circles it. It does not click it for you.

Handles the small stuff · Slack

Most social media managers do not use Slack to post. They use it to get a yes. A draft goes to a client, a designer or a boss. The answer comes back in chat. Slack is where those answers pile up, so the setup matters as much as any one feature.
Why Slack is the approval room for social media work
Social media work runs on short deadlines. One post can need a caption check, a logo fix and a final read before it goes live. Each step arrives as a message. If those messages sit in three apps, the morning disappears into searching.
A Slack-commissioned survey of 2,000 US small business owners in 2024 found that 28% wait on status updates from several tools and people. That survey did not study social media managers. Treat it as a comparison, not a measurement of your team.
Planable's 2025 survey of 1,000 marketers points the same way. It found that 40%+ struggle with content reviews and approvals. Only 12% reported no bottlenecks. Planable is a vendor, and its survey covers marketers in general.
Set up channels for each client and approval step
Start with channels. A common setup uses one channel per client, plus one private channel for your own review. Create a channel with the steps in How to create a channel in Slack on Mac. Decide between public and private before you invite anyone.
Here is a worked example. Say you run social for three clients. Give each client one channel for approvals. Add one private channel called internal-review for drafts the client should never see. Every post then gets one thread in one place.
Avoid one giant channel for every client. Search gets noisy. Feedback for one client becomes hard to pull up when that client asks about it. Use plain names, so a teammate can guess the channel without asking you.
Approve posts in threads and save what you need
A draft belongs in a thread under the message that asked for review. Replies stay attached to the post. Keep the post and its feedback together, and one search finds what the client said about the logo.

When an approval comes back, put the cursor on that message and press A. That saves it to your list. If the approval needs a follow-up, press M. M opens a reminder about that message, so the follow-up does not depend on memory.
Saved items sit under Home > Saved. Only you can see them. Slack's help article does not give a limit on how many you can keep, or how long they stay. Treat the list as a to-do list, not an archive. Copy the final approval text into your content calendar or doc.
Slack reminders for social media deadlines
Reminders are where social media work usually slips. Slack gives you a quick route and a heavier one. Use /remind for a simple reminder. For a more complex message, Slack's reminders article recommends a scheduled message template or a Slackbot task instead.
Rules that catch people out
Two rules catch people out. A channel reminder made with /remind [#channel] [what] [when] cannot be edited. To change it, run /remind list, delete the reminder and create a new one. A reminder for a day with no time arrives at 9 a.m. in your time zone.
You can change that default under Preferences. Recurring reminders repeat by day, such as every Monday. They do not repeat by hour. Guests cannot create channel reminders at all, so a freelancer needs a member to set one.
- Write a time into every reminder. Otherwise it lands at 9 a.m.
- Post the reminder in the client channel, so the whole team sees it.
- Test a recurring reminder once before you trust the pattern.
- If the wording changes, delete the old reminder first. You cannot edit it.
Say a client approves on Tuesdays. Set a Monday reminder in the client channel with a time in it. Then check the next Monday to see whether it fired when you expected. Adjust once, then leave it alone.
Schedule messages in Slack on Mac without losing track
Native scheduling is the simplest way to send a message later. On desktop, type the message, then click the arrow icon next to the paper plane icon. Pick the time. The steps are in How to schedule a message in Slack on Mac.
To find the list, click Drafts & sent at the top of the sidebar. Hover over a scheduled message to see options such as editing and deleting. Open the list the morning a post should go out, and read the text once more.
Two gaps matter. Slack's help article does not say how far ahead you can schedule. It also does not mention recurring scheduled messages. Until you confirm both limits in your own workspace, keep recurring posts in your calendar.
Search Slack fast when a client asks for an old approval
Search eats more time than most people expect. Press ⌘G to search the whole workspace. Press ⌘F to search only the conversation you are in. Use ⌘F inside a client channel, and ⌘G when you know the client's name but not the channel.
Search with words that appear in the message. A post date, a platform name or the word approved works better than a vague topic. The step-by-step guide is How to search messages in Slack on Mac.
Keyboard shortcuts for social media managers on Mac
You cannot set custom shortcuts in Slack. Slack's keyboard shortcuts page says that is not currently possible. Learn the built-in ones that fit approvals and captions. The table lists the ones that matter most for this job.
| Shortcut | What it does | Where you use it |
|---|---|---|
| A | Save or unsave the focused message | Approval replies |
| M | Create a reminder about the focused message | Follow-ups on a post |
| ⌘G | Start a workspace search | Finding a client thread |
| ⌘F | Search the current conversation | One client channel's history |
| ⌘⇧S | Expand or collapse the workspace switcher | Moving between client workspaces |
| ⌘B | Bold | Emphasis in a brief |
| ⌘I | Italics | Tone notes in a caption draft |
| ⌘⇧8 | Bulleted list | Caption options |
| ⌘⇧9 | Quote | Quoting a client's line back |
The full list lives in How to show keyboard shortcuts in Slack on Mac. Learn the five you use every day before you learn the rest.
Mistakes that waste a social media manager's week
Most lost time comes from habits, not from missing features. These mistakes come up a lot in the approval work described above.
- Approving in direct messages. The next person cannot see the reasoning, and you cannot find it later.
- Setting a reminder without a time. It lands at 9 a.m., whether or not that suits the post.
- Trying to edit a channel reminder. Delete it and recreate it instead.
- Scheduling a message and forgetting it. Check Drafts & sent the morning it should go out.
- Leaving notifications on for every channel. Mute the noisy ones so approvals stand out.
- Treating saved items as a permanent archive. Copy final approvals into your calendar or doc.
The numbers behind approval delays
Two outside numbers shape how I would plan this. Planable found that 40%+ of marketers struggle with reviews and approvals. The same survey found that 38% plan only one week ahead. A weekly reminder rhythm fits how many teams already work.

Where Lazur fits into your Slack day
Lazur is a voice assistant for the Mac. It lives in the notch. Hold ⌥ ⌘ to ask about anything on your screen, and Lazur answers out loud. Ask where something is, and Lazur draws a circle and a label around it. Ask how to do something, and it guides you one click at a time.
Use it for the Slack steps you forget. Ask where the scheduled list is, and Lazur circles Drafts & sent. Ask how to save a message, and it walks you through More actions, then Add to saved. Lazur does not click buttons for you. You still make each click.
Hold fn to dictate clean text at the cursor in any app. That helps with long approval replies and caption briefs. Snippets can hold the approval line you type every week. Dictation is included with Lazur.
Privacy matters for client work. Lazur listens and looks at the screen only while you hold the shortcut. Audio and the screenshot go to AI providers to answer, and they are not stored. Content is never used to train AI models.

Lazur runs on macOS, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows is planned, not available. Plans and what they include are on the pricing page.
Slack plan limits and pricing to check first
Slack's free plan keeps 90 days of message history. It lets you connect up to 10 apps from the App Directory. If your approvals need older threads, check that before you rely on the free plan.
Pro costs $8.75 per user per month when billed monthly. It costs $7.25 per user per month when billed annually. Slack's pricing page also lists 50% off the first three months, for Pro bought online within 7 days of creating a team. That promotion does not apply to annual plans.
Billing counts active members. Anyone who takes any action in Slack within a 28-day period counts as active and is billed. Inactive paid members get a prorated credit. Review the member list before each bill arrives.
The latest Mac build dated on or before this page is 4.53.280, released November 3, 2026. Its release notes describe maintenance and security work, with no menu changes. Update before you train a team on menu steps.
Keep notifications from hiding approvals
Notifications decide whether you see an approval at 10 a.m. or at 4 p.m. Mute channels that do not need you. Pause alerts during focus blocks. The steps are in How to mute a channel in Slack on Mac and How to pause notifications in Slack on Mac.
If alerts stop arriving, work through How to fix Slack notifications not working on Mac. Then set reminders for approval deadlines, not for the message itself. A post due Thursday needs its nudge on Wednesday, which gives the client time.
A short daily Slack routine for social media managers
A fixed routine stops approvals from slipping. Run the same steps at the same time each day, so you know where to look.
- Open Home > Saved and work through the items you pressed A on yesterday.
- Check Drafts & sent for scheduled posts due today.
- Reply in each client thread. Press M on anything still open.
- Set one reminder for tomorrow's first deadline, with a time.
- Mute or pause the rest until your next review block.
What to do next
Pick one client channel and run one post through it. Use a thread, one save and one reminder. Then add the next client. Test each reminder type once before you rely on it. For step-by-step help with reminders, read How to set a reminder in Slack on Mac.
